In visiting several places in the Chicago area, Dean Arjo Klamer found serious interest in the Study Abroad Program. Students are attracted by the focus on European topics, the location, quality, and reasonable financial conditions (despite the low value of the dollar). Academia Vitae is in discussion with Roosevelt University and Bard College for further collaboration.

Leon Botstein, president of Bard College, has just given green light for further collaboration between Bard and Academia Vitae. Jonathan Becker, Bard’s Academic Director, Associate Dean of the College and Dean of International Studies, and Susan Gillespie, Director of the Institute for International Liberal Education, will visit Academia Vitae in July.
Bard is interested in accrediting Academia Vitae’s Freshman Year. Bard president Leon Botstein finds Academia Vitae a wonderful initiative, combining the best of American liberal arts education with the European university tradition:
“The first order of business in college is to figure out your place in the world and in your life and career. College life starts with introspection, as opposed to a public, collective impetus. We try to urge students to think about their place in the world and to develop a desire to participate from inside themselves . . . we encourage students to identify and pursue their academic interests with care.”
Bard is founder of the Institute for International Liberal Education. The aim is for Bard to grant credit for the Freshman Year, which will be valid within the (North American) university system.
